Consonant-Vowel-Consonant Words

No matter what your adopted reading series is, you will most likely be teaching CVC words. Below are some printables and activities that I hope will help you.

CVC Word Mats: You can use these in several ways.
1. Help children sound out the words. There is a box for each sound/letter in the word. Use magnetic letters to spell the word in the boxes under the picture. Laminate the mats for durability.
2. Do the same as above, except use letter tiles or foam letters instead of magnetic letters.
3. Laminate the mats and let the children write the sounds for the words with dry-erase or overhead markers.
4. Copy the mats and let the children write the sounds in the boxes with pencils as they sound out the word.

Mixed-up Words: The sheets below are best used with magnetic letters so that the students can manipulate the letters in a given box to find out what arrangement makes sense as a CVC word. They then record the word on the line at the bottom of the box. Most letters make only one true word, but there are a few letter combinations that make two words.
